My Love of Makeup

what a weird thing to be writing a blog post about makeup on Christmas Day.. Anyway, I've been thinking these past two months about all the little things that might have led me to this career. This post will not be about permanent makeup, but moreso about little events in my childhood/ teen years that I personally find funny, but show how much I truly love the world of beauty and specifically cosmetics and skincare.

My mom

One of my first interactions with makeup came through my mom. Even though she used to work as a nurse anesthetist, she was also an AVON representative, so our apartment was always filled with AVON catalogues and boxes full of orders on the floor. In the beginning, all I wanted was bubble bath products, perfumes for children and lots of lip balms.. like, lots of them.

Kindergarten - 5-6 years old

I will never forget this one time when the teacher walked in the class and told us she had brought in that day some used makeup for us to play with. My heart started racing so fast that I honestly think I had a panic attack. I was just so, so tremendously excited.

Looking like a boy

For many years my family has cut my hair short. Being a little bit chubby didn't help either. I was the girliest girl one could imagine at heart, but I still didn't have the authority over my clothing and the way I looked to actually show that. I often times joke that the way I am is the revenge of what I wasn't as a child.

Shaving, tweezing and owning a mascara for the first time - 11 years old

For Christmas I received from my mom a lovely perfume from AVON and a tube of mascara. Now.. I had been using at the time a dried up old mascara that I used to put water into to thin it out - eww -, but this was the first time I actually owned one.
This was also the first time I found a tweezer in the house. I was plucking away 2 hairs off of each eyebrow / week. After 2 months I was scolded for doing this at a very young age. Blaaa blaa bla, well I have never waxed my brows to this day and no one has ever tweezed them except myself. And my brows look good and full compared to yours, mom. Fact.

Skipping tutoring and buying makeup

I haven't done this too much, but it sure did happen. My family used to send me to these Math tutoring classes to make sure I got As on important exams, but I would sit outside even if it was winter for the entire time, skip the class, and use the money to buy makeup and French skincare from pharmacies. It was a horrible thing to do, but I promise I still got As.. and my skin was in good shape. :)) haha

Spending almost all my money in MAC and Sephora on Champs-Elysees.. to buy makeup - 17 years old

Back when I was 17 I won a trip to Paris. I will never forget that I had around 400 euros to spend for the whole 2 week trip, which for me was quite a lot at the time. Prior to that, I spent hours and hours on the internet searching what was I going to buy in makeup stores when I got there. I ended up spending roughly 300 euros on a black eyeshadow from MAC, a mineralized blush, a foundation from Makeup for Ever, a bronzer from Dior.. etc. I was just nuts about makeup.

Wanting to turn 18 to have a Paypal account

Most of the makeup that I wanted and read about on the internet was only sold in big cities or different countries, and lots of ebay sellers would only ship you products if you had a PayPal account. I have honestly waited so anxiously to turn 18 and 5 days after that happened I was already bidding on Estee Lauder products on ebay.

Moving to the U.S. to be surrounded by what I love

Yeah.. well, I may say sometimes that I like to travel, to discover new countries.. however, if I think of it well, the first day after I moved to the States I spent 3 hours in a CVS store by my house just amazed by the amount of products and brands that I could find. Did I just move to Heaven?

Meeting influential people in the makeup world

This year I was also happy to meet Anastasia (from Anastasia Beverly Hills), Mario Dedivanonic (celebrity makeup artist) and.. actually also Kim Kardashian who ended up being very sweet, even though I don't know much about her show.

End of 2015 -  Years later, makeup is still my passion. It is something that makes me happy. I love color, I love beauty, and there's nothing wrong with that.

P.S. Reading through this blog post, I wanted to emphasize that I hope I do not come off as shallow person. As I said before, it is my passion. I don't smoke, I don't buy expensive shoes, and I've never asked for expensive products from people in my life.
